Top question asked: Are you a Republican or Democrat?
The honest answer is, I have been both at one time. I was raised to be Democrat when I was younger as we were supporting family members that were running for office.
I then became a Republican when I became a business owner and I researched the difference between the two.
I consider myself to be a conservative independent. I believe in having a manageable government. I believe that the government should represent the voice of the community and people should have the freedom to choose what is best for themselves and their family. I believe that the government should not be in competition with the private sector and should go back to being a maintenance program. We need for them to take better care of our infrastructure, streets and maintaining our current assets.
Some people are confused because I am in support of protecting our water and resources from heavy industry users and from desalination plants being put into our bays. After much research and hearing from scientists and engineers, this will detrimentally impact our sea life, if it doesn’t destroy it entirely, and our way of life here.
Why are you running?
In the past, I have made two runs for city council without success and because I refused to take special interest contributions.
I have decided to now run for Nueces County Commissioner Precinct 1 because my opponent who has been in local politics for 30+ years has been coordinating with the Port of Corpus Christi commissioners and they are proposing to put FIVE (5) desalination plants IN OUR Corpus Christi Bay. This will one; destroy our sealife; Two; destroy our way of life and here and destroy tourism.
We need candidates who aren’t receiving dividends from ExxonMobil and EOG Resources (formally known as Enron). Will he ever vote on our side if he is funded by heavy industry?
I will not cower to industry or the Port of Corpus Christi. I will fight to protect our water, as the minority user at 16%, and hold industry accountable to pay fair water rates and to pay their taxes. I AM NOT AGAINST INDUSTRY. They just need to be better partners with and for the community.
It’s time for government accountability. It’s time to ask the tough questions. And it’s time to hold corporations accountable that have been subsidized by the community for three decades.
Please vote Rachel Caballero for Nueces County Commissioner Precinct 1.
